Looking back at the FEEP private schools assembly: the IT challenges that keep coming up in 2026

On March 26, we had the opportunity to attend the school administration assembly organized by the Fédération des établissements d’enseignement privés (FEEP).

Beyond the meetings themselves, this event provided valuable insight into the current realities on the ground. Through one-on-one discussions with several participants, a number of recurring IT challenges clearly stood out.

Key IT challenges observed in private schools

1. Uncertainty around compliance (Law 25)

Many institutions are unsure whether they are fully compliant from an IT perspective. While the requirements are generally known, their practical application in a school environment often remains unclear, leaving potential risks difficult to assess.

2. Managing student devices

Managing student devices remains a significant challenge, including:

  • deployment
  • updates
  • security
  • usage control

Without a clear structure, this quickly becomes difficult to maintain.

3. Stability during critical periods

Exam periods and back-to-school seasons put IT infrastructures under significant pressure. At these moments, there is virtually no tolerance for failure, which quickly exposes any weaknesses.

4. Dependence on a single IT resource

In many cases, IT operations rely heavily on a single internal resource. This creates operational risk in situations such as absence, overload, or unexpected issues.

5. Lack of support during key moments

Certain critical periods require a higher level of support than what internal teams can handle alone, making it difficult to maintain smooth operations without additional resources.

6. Rising and unpredictable equipment costs

Since 2025, the global demand driven by artificial intelligence has created significant pressure on components such as RAM and SSDs, resulting in noticeable price increases across many IT devices.

As a result, many institutions are facing unexpected cost increases that were not anticipated in their budgets, making hardware renewal planning more complex and financially unpredictable.

7. Optimizing an internal IT team without increasing costs: a challenge for many schools

Some schools have sizeable internal IT teams, often structured to handle peak periods such as back-to-school or large-scale deployments.

The rest of the year, however, workloads can vary significantly. This creates an imbalance: teams are either overloaded during peak times or underutilized during quieter periods.

What caught the attention of several decision-makers is the idea of maintaining an internal team while complementing it with co-managed IT services to better absorb these fluctuations.

This model makes it possible to access, when needed, high-level cybersecurity expertise, infrastructure specialists, or level 1 and 2 technicians for user support.

The result is a more flexible team, better equipped to handle critical periods without having to overstaff for a few peak moments during the year.

Similar challenges, but very different realities

The challenges are often the same, but the way they are addressed varies greatly from one school to another. Each IT decision depends on several factors: the structure, the budget, the level of technological maturity, and organizational priorities.
